February 24 (SeeNews) - Croatia's centre-left opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) remains a favourite to win the general elections in the country due in the autumn, polls show.
If the elections was held today, SDP would get 29.1% support, up by a monthly 4.3 index points, while the ruling centre-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) would collect 26.9% of the votes, down by a monthly 0.05 points, a survey conducted by Promocija Plus agency for public broadcaster HRT showed on Friday. The survey was carried out between February 14 and 18 among 1,400 people.
In January, SDP outran HDZ in opinion polls for the first time since HDZ came to power four years ago, after SDP candidate Zoran Milanovic won Croatia's presidential election, defeating incumbent president Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic backed by HDZ in a January 5 runoff vote.
The next parliamentary election in Croatia is due to take place in the autumn.
The results of the February survey indicate that the only other party that would pass the 5.0% election threshold is the recently unveiled political formation of musician Miroslav Skoro, who came third in the first round of the presidential elections.
Skoro's political party, which is part of this survey for a first time, grabbed 9.9% support in the poll.
