December 12 (SeeNews) - Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit said on Tuesday it has laid the keel for a polar expedition cruise vessel for its client Polar Expeditions Inc.
This is the first LR Polar Class 6 cruise ship to be built in the world, Brodosplit said in a statement.
"Cruising the polar regions is a growing market niche so we have a lot of orders in preparation and we hope to tackle more such ships", Brodosplit said.
The ship will host 196 passengers in 85 cabins. It will be 107.6 m long and 17.6 m wide, and will be powered by two engines with a total output of 4200 kW, and capable of reaching speeds of 15 knots.
The ship will welcome its first passengers in March 2019.
