November 15 (SeeNews) - Croatian shipyard Brodosplit said on Tuesday it has launched successfully a marine data collection buoy for French technology developer in the floating offshore wind space Ocergie, a unit of US company Ocergy.
The buoy will collect biodiversity and metocean data out at sea to be used to better understand wind turbulence and aerial and marine life at a project site, the shipyard said in a press release. The value of the buoy was not disclosed.
It will be deployed near a windy macro-zone in the Mediterraneran Sea off the Occitanie region.
This contract, along with its business importance, has also strategic importance, as thanks to it the Split-based shipyard gets more deeply involved in the production of demanding steel structures for offshore wind farms in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean, according to the press release.
