September 4 (SeeNews) - Croatian shipbuilding company Brodosplit said on Wednesday it has completed the construction of a mega section of a bow of a passenger cruise ship for its Italian peer Fincantieri.
Fincantieri will continue the construction of the bow in its shipyard in Ancona, Brodosplit said in a statement.
It added that the section it is delivering is a mega block 110 meters in length, 28 meters in width, a height of 19.25 meters and a displacement of 4,400 tonnes.
"[...] the size and importance of the work done may be financially compared to construction of a ferry," Brodosplit said without providing information about the value of the works.
"The mega block includes a bulbous bow and a lower part of the bow where two thrusters, ballast and fuel tanks and bilges of black and gray water are incorporated," the company said
Tomislav Debeljak, CEO of Brodosplit, said in the statement that the Croatian company has so far delivered more than 10,000 tonnes of equipped sections (mega blocks) for passenger cruise ships of Fincantieri as part of their long-standing cooperation. The construction of the latest mega block is part of a deal with Fincantieri signed in July 2018.
Brodosplit is owned by Brodogradjevna Industrija Split. Some 80% of its output is built for foreign buyers.
