February 24 (SeeNews) - Croatia's annual inflation accelerated to 0.9% in January from 0.2% a month earlier, data from the country's statistics office showed on Friday.
Month-on-month, Croatia's consumer price index (CPI) dropped 0.1% in January, after decreasing 0.2% in December, the stats agency said.
Food prices, which have the biggest weight of 27.64% in the consumer basket, increased 2.5% on the year last month, after edging up 1.0% in December.
Annual deflation in the housing and utilities segment, with a 16.58% weight, rose to 4.6% from 2.5% in December, while in the transport segment (12.48% weight) an inflation of 5.9% was recorded compared to a growth of 1.5% last month.
The monthly price decline was influenced by a 11.0% drop in the price of clothing and footwear and a 3.1% fall in the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
In 2016, Croatia's consumer prices fell by an annual average of 1.1% after a 0.5% contraction in 2015.
