June 16 (SeeNews) - Croatia's inflation slowed to 1.1% year-on-year in May from 1.4% a month earlier, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Month-on-month, Croatia's consumer price index (CPI) dropped 0.2% in May, after edging up 0.5% in April, the Bureau of Statistics said.
Food prices, which have the biggest weight of 27.64% in the consumer basket, climbed up 2.6% on the year last month, after rising 3.5% in April.
Annual deflation in the housing and utilities segment, with a 16.58% weight, widened to 2.8% from 2.7% in April, while the transport segment, which has 12.48% weight, recorded an inflation rate of 2.6% in May, compared to a rise in prices of 4.4% in the previous month.
The month-on-month price decrease in May reflected a 0.7% drop in the prices of clothing and footwear and in the prices of transport. Prices of communication services fell by 0.6%, the prices of miscellaneous goods and services by 0.4%, while the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels dropped by 0.2% in each group.
In 2016, Croatia's consumer prices fell by an annual average of 1.1% after a 0.5% contraction in 2015.
