April 6 (SeeNews) - Croatian wholesale trade company Ovum has asked the commercial court in Zagreb to open bankruptcy proceedings against local retailer Konzum, a unit of struggling concern Agrokor, court documents show.
Ovum, to whom Konzum owes 9.6 million kuna ($1.4 million/1.3 million euro), filed the bankruptcy request on March 31 citing over-indebtedness, according to court documents published by broadcaster N1 on Thursday.
"The creditor's claims against the debtor amount to 9,575,159.67 kuna plus legal default interest, based on delivered but unpaid for goods", the request reads.
According to local media reports, Konzum's accounts remain blocked over Agrokor's financial troubles.
On Wednesday, Agrokor announced it is reshuffling the top managers of its units in line with the new business model and restructuring plan being implemented in the company. Among other changes, Teo Vujcic, former CEO of Zrenjanin-based oil producer Dijamant, will now fill the role of CEO of Konzum, replacing Slavko Ledic.
Late on Tuesday, Agrokor confirmed that Antonio Alvarez III, a managing director at consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal, will be appointed chief restructuring officer and will lead a team of international experts towards the company's recovery.
On Sunday, VTB, Sberbank, Erste&Steiermaerkische Bank, Privredna banka Zagreb, the local unit of Austria's Raiffeisenbank, Zagrebacka Banka and Agrokor signed a standstill agreement to help the company stabilise its operations and service its obligations to suppliers.
