September 18 (SeeNews) - Croatia's state-owned railway passenger carrier HZ Putnicki Prijevoz (HZPP) transported some 1.7 million passengers in the second quarter of 2020, down 67% on the year, as a result of the coronavirus lockdown measures, the country's telecommunications regulator, HAKOM, said on Friday.
Railway transport in Croatia was temporarily halted between March 22 and May 10, HAKOM said in a statement.
At the same time, state-owned rail freight carrier HZ Cargo carried 3.67 million tonnes of goods in the April-June period, up 2.5% on the year.
Even though the coronavirus crisis resulted in shrinking volume of goods transportation in the country, HZ Cargo took over servicing part of the freight from other transport sectors, including road and air transport companies, HAKOM noted.
