July 25 (SeeNews) - US online retailer Amazon is said to be planning to enter into exclusive cooperation with Croatian postal operator Hrvatska Posta [ZSE:HP] for delivery and logistics support in Croatia and most likely the wider region, including Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia, local media reported on Thursday.
A team of Amazon experts has reportedly visited Croatia in the past days for talks on details of the planned cooperation and visited the new 50 million euro ($55.6 million) logistics centre of Croatian Post in Velika Gorica, south of Zagreb, which should satisfy their high sorting and shipment criteria, news daily Poslovni Dnevnik reported, quoting unofficial information.
The daily said it has not yet received Amazon's official comment, while representatives of state-owned Croatian Post have neither dismissed nor confirmed the information.
"At this moment we cannot confirm the information you mention," the daily quoted Croatian Post officials as saying.
"We have received enquiries from big global companies for cooperation, i.e. for taking over the role of a regional leader in our operations. Almost certainly peers from the region and potential interested parties will tour our new sorting centre in the coming months, since it is really unique in this part of Europe," Poslovni Dnevnik quoted representatives of Croatian Post as saying.
Croatian Post said last month the construction of its new 38,200 square metres sorting centre in Velika Gorica represents the largest capital investment in its history. The project was launched in 2017, and the company plans to complete the relocation process to the new facility by September. The centre will include a new package sorting system with capacity to process 15,000 packages per hour.
