January 27 (SeeNews) - Croatian Post said it has successfully completed its first delivery by drone as part of a pilot project carried out in partnership with local company AIR-RMLD.
The project aims to show the possibilities of using drones for letter and parcel deliveries and indicate what the needs of Croatian Post for this type of technology are, it said in a statement on Friday.
The drone flew 12 minutes from Zagreb's Gazenica port to Preko - the administrative centre of the Adriatic island of Ugljan, at a speed of 35 kilometres per hour.
During the pilot project the drone made a dozen of flights between Gazenica and Preko, including in stormy weather conditions. The drone used during the testing can transport loads of up to 200 grammes, flying completely autonomously on a pre-programmed route, Croatian Post said.
Zagreb-based AIR-RMLD provides commercial and industrial drone services.
Last year, state-owned Croatian Post introduced pallet-carrier robots made by Croatian artificial intelligence and robotics company Gideon Brothers in its new sorting and logistics center in the capital Zagreb, as part of its 2022 strategy to follow industry 4.0 trends towards digital and internet-based system communication between machines, people, and product and business systems.
