September 12 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums of Croatian insurers totalled 6.90 billion kuna ($1.1 billion/928.7 million euro) in the first eight months of 2018, up 10.43% on the year, official figures show.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance rose 9.95% year-on-year to 4.73 billion kuna in the January-August period, while the life insurance segment earned premiums of 2.17 billion kuna, 11.50% above the prior-year level, according to figures published on the website of the Croatian Insurance Bureau.
As at the end of 2017, 23 insurance companies operated in the country. They earned gross written premiums of 9.1 billion kuna in 2017, up 3.38% on 2016.
