June 19 (SeeNews) - Some 150 servicemen will join firefighters in Croatia's Split-Dalmatia county battling a forest fire which broke out on Sunday and continued to spread in the early hours of Monday, the government said.
No casualties have been reported.
The government said in a statement it decided to send armed forces to aid the firefighters after on Monday morning the fire started to spread from the coastal municipality of Tucepi.
According to local media, three hotels have been evacuated, as the fire threatens to spread up the coast to another popular tourist destination - Makarska.
Hotels Jadran, Neptun and Tamaris, as well as nearby local residents, were evacuated around 2.30 am on Monday, news portal index.hr reported.
More than 200 firefighters managed to prevent the fire from engulfing the hotels. However, due to high winds, the fire is spreading.
Traffic in the area has been disrupted as several roads are closed.
On Sunday, another fire broke in a town next to Tucepi - Podgora - but firefighters put it under control.
