December 18 (SeeNews) - Croatia's central bank, HNB, said it bought 457.7 million euro ($521.6 million) from commercial banks on Monday - an intervention aimed at preventing a strong appreciation of the local kuna currency.
The central bank intervened on the foreign exchange market by buying euro at an average exchange rate of 7.397965 kuna, HNB said in a statement.
The Croatian central bank last intervened on the foreign exchange market on December 4, when it purchased 494.7 million euro from commercial banks to slow gains in the kuna.
