October 11 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Croatia's airports rose 8.6% year-on-the year to 8.208 million in the first eight months of 2019, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
The total number of landings and take-offs increased by 5.2% year-on-year to 93,266 in January-August, while cargo volumes fell 4.4% to 7,553 tonnes, the statistical office said in a statement.
In August alone, the airports in the Adriatic country handled 1.951 million passengers, up 7.8% on the year, while the overall number of airplane landings and take-offs rose 3% to 19.847. The cargo traffic at the airports declined by 9.3% year-on-year to 933 tonnes in August.
In August, the airport in Split recorded the largest number of passengers in Croatia - 669,403 (up 7.1% on the year), followed by Dubrovnik airport with 522,410 (up 9.2%) and Zagreb airport with 374,036 (up 0.6%).
Residents of Germany led the list of international passengers at Croatian airports in August as they totalled 367,349 (up 11.6% on the year), followed by the United Kingdom (348,603, up 8.3%), France (160,863, up 7.6%), Italy (103,065, a 4.3% increase) and Spain (99,084, up 7.3%).
