September 26 (SeeNews) - Croatia will continue to actively promote its tourism destinations in the UK in cooperation with other British tour operators following the collapse of UK-based global travel group Thomas Cook, tourism minister Gari Cappelli said.
All British tourists travelling with Thomas Cook who are currently in Croatia will be taken care of, Cappelli said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to him, there are many tour operators in the UK willing to work with Croatia.
The tourism ministry said earlier this week that some 800,000 British tourists have visited the Adriatic state so far this year, up by 4% annually, spending 4.1 million overnights.
"When speaking about the current and future impact of the shutdown of Thomas Cook on the arrival of British tourists in Croatia, we want to underline that there are many high-quality British tour operators who have Croatia in their offer, so we believe that this situation will not significantly change the circumstances in the UK as a source of tourists," the ministry said.
On September 23, Thomas Cook Group announced it has gone bankrupt, cancelling all bookings for flights and holidays and leaving many holiday-makers stranded abroad. The UK Civil Aviation Authority, stepped in to assist customers currently overseas and those in the UK with future bookings.
Thomas Cook Group was formed in 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG and MyTravel Group. However, Thomas Cook's history traces back to the 19th century, making it the world's first international travel company.
