February 14 (SeeNews) - Croatia put a total of 136,000 hectares under wheat in the autumn of 2019, down 4.2% compared to a year earlier, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
At the same time, a total of 56,000 hectares were put under barley, up 3.7% compared to the autumn of 2018, the office said in a statement, quoting data available as of November 10, 2019.
The total area put under rapeseed also shrank, by 13.6% to 38,000 hectares, the statement reads.
In the autumn of 2019, Croatia planted cereals on 215,000 hectares, down 6.5% from a year earlier, with the area of planted wheat accounting for 63% of the total, followed by barley with a 26% share.
Last year, Croatia harvested 770,000 tonnes of wheat, up 4.3% compared with 2018, thanks to larger harvested area and a slight rise in yields.
The country's barley output also increased in 2019, by 14% to 260,000 tonnes, while oats production jumped 27% to 57,000 tonnes.
Rapeseed production, on the other hand, fell almost 36% to 100,000 tonnes in 2019 as both harvested area and yields declined.
