May 10 (SeeNews) - Croatia intends to add over 2,500 MW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030, economy minister Davor Filipovic said on Wednesday.
Within the EU's Modernisation Fund worth some 1 billion euro ($1.1 billion) the government has launched calls for grants for investment in projects that aim to boost competitiveness and part of them relate to incentives for production of energy for the companies’ own needs, Filipovic told an international conference on natural gas held in Opatija, the ministry said in a press release.

The economy ministry said last week that the Croatian hydrocarbon agency will distribute some 30 million euro ($33 million) grants for research of the geothermal potential at six locations in the country's central and eastern parts.
Last month, the ministry called a tender for granting 60 million euro for the production of electricity from renewable sources in the processing industries and the heating sector, aiming to encourage local companies to produce their own electricity, reduce dependence on energy procurement and cut costs.
The European Union’s Modernisation Fund is a dedicated funding programme to support 10 lower-income EU member states, including Croatia, in their transition to climate neutrality by helping to modernise their energy systems and improve energy efficiency.
