December 16 (SeeNews) - Croatia has officially opened the 12.2 km long railroad section connecting Gradec to Sveti Ivan Zabno, following a 258 million kuna ($38.6 million/34.7 million euro) investment, the infrastructure ministry said on Monday.
The construction of the new railroad in central Croatia - the first to be built in the Adriatic country in the past 50 years, was financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund, the ministry said in a press release.
The section is part of the railroad connecting Zagreb to Bjelovar located some 90 km east of the Croatian capital.
Infrastructure minister Oleg Butkovic said that Croatia is currently investing 1.2 billion euro in railway infrastructure projects.
"We will sign two important agreements by the end of the year. One on the section Vinkovci-Vukovar, and another one on a grant [...] for the Hrvatski Leskovac-Karlovci section," Butkovic said.
