March 31 (SeeNews) - Croatia received a higher-than-expected revenue of 13.114 billion euro ($14.3 billion) from visiting foreign tourists in 2022, up 44% on the year, the tourism ministry said on Friday.
Compared to the record high revenue collected in pre-pandemic 2019, the revenue from foreign tourists in 2022 was 24% higher, the tourism ministry said in a press release, quoting central bank figures .
Revenue from foreign tourists in the fourth quarter of last year amounted to 1.473 billion euro, up 44% on the year.
“Croatia achieved a record-high revenue from foreign tourists in 2022. Combined with the estimated revenue from local tourists, the overall tourism revenue in 2022 is seen at some 15 billion euro,” tourism minister Nikolina Brnjac said in the press release.
Tourism is a key industry for the Croatian economy, contributing a fifth of the country's GDP.
