PODGORICA (Montenegro), December 26 (SeeNews) – Montenegrin telecommunications company Crnogorski Telekom [MNG:TECG] said on Friday it has recently launched testing Long Term Evolution (LTE)-Advanced technology, also known as 4G+.
For the first time in Montenegro, transmission speeds of up to 300 megabits per second (Mbps) were achieved, Crnogorski Telekom, part of Hungary's Magyar Telekom, said in a statement.
Speed tests were conducted at two sites in the capital Podgorica and at one site in the coastal city of Budva and will continue in the next six months.
The project is conducted in cooperation with Croatian telecoms equipment manufacturer Ericsson Nikola Tesla.
4G+ is the next step in the development of next-generation telecoms technology aimed at supporting superfast mobile speeds.
Crnogorski Telekom, which posted a 5.2% rise in net profit to 18 million euro ($22 million) in the first nine months of 2014, also said its 4G service now has over 60% population coverage.
The subscribers of the telco's wireless arm, T-Mobile, declined by an annual 7.0% to 368,000 at the end of September. T-Mobile’s market share fell by 2.3% on the year to 33% in the review period.
T-Mobile competes with Norwegian-owned Telenor, the biggest mobile carrier in Montenegro, and M:Tel, controlled by Serbia's state-owned Telekom Srbija.
Montenegro has a population of around 630,000.
