February 3 (SeeNews) - ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 thermal power plant (TPP) generated 12% of Bulgaria's total electricity output in 2022, the plant operator said on Friday.
Maritsa East 3 TPP's power output in 2022 increased 7% from a year earlier and was the highest in the plant's history, the operator said in a statement, without specifying the exact volume.
The electricity produced by the coal-fired power plant met the average consumption needs of over 1.3 million Bulgarian households last year.
The 908 MW power plant in southern Bulgaria is 73%-owned by UK-based energy giant ContourGlobal, with Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Company holding the remaining 27% stake. In May last year, the UK parent company agreed to be taken private by US private equity firm KKR.
