April 2 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's thermal power plant (TPP) ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 generated 13% of the country's total electricity output in the March 13-March 31 period, it said on Thursday.
Within this period, corresponding with the first two weeks of the national state of emergency declared over the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the plant continued to operate as usual, the plant operator said in a statement.
TPP ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 relies only on locally sourced raw materials for its electricity production, including lignite from the nearby Maritsa East complex, it noted.
The plant operator also said that it has taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its on-site employees in the context of the COVID-9 pandemic.
Last week, TPP ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 said its production increased by an annual 19% to 4.547 million MWh in 2019, covering 11% of the local market's electricity consumption.
The 908 MW TPP ContourGlobal Maritza East 3 is 73%-owned by energy giant ContourGlobal, with Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Company holding the remaining 27% stake.
