TIRANA (Albania), June 13 (SeeNews) – The construction works on the remaining part of a highway linking Albania’s capital Tirana to Dibra region and neighbouring Macedonia will start next week, prime minister Edi Rama said.
The project is part of a 1 billion euro ($1.2 billion) government programme for the development of road infrastructure and for investments in healthcare and education in the next few years under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme, Rama said in a video file posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday.
In March the government said that, following a tender, it had selected local company Gjoka Konstruksion to build and maintain the remaining part of the highway under a PPP scheme.
The estimated cost of the project is around 240 million euro, the government said in a statement on Wednesday.
Gjoka Konstruksion is expected to complete the construction of the 40 km section of the 61.7 km highway in four years, according to local media reports.
