February 8 (SeeNews) - The number of investments in the construction industry has seen a 20% annual increase in 2022, reaching 29,719 projects, construction market research specialist IBC Focus said on Wednesday.
The construction sector performed decisively better in 2022 compared to the previous year, as all of its nine segments recorded increases in project numbers, IBC Focus said in its Construct Intelligence 2022 analysis.
Infrastructure projects was the best performing construction sector last year, with a 63% annual increase in the number of projects.
Comparatively, in IBC Focus’s 2021 analysis, three segments of the construction sector recorded decreases.
In terms of the total number of projects, the private residential segment topped the list with 12,149 investments in 2022, accounting for a 31.2% share in all projects and marking a 17.3% increase compared to the previous year. The industrial segment was the runner-up, with a 15.33% share and 5,960 projects, compared to 5,347 in 2021. The hotel and recreation segment came in third with 4,615 projects or an 11.87% share.
Investments in infrastructure, which accelerated at the fastest annual pace, came in sixth with 3,093 projects in 2022. The lowest performers were constructions in the medical and science segment, with a 2.82% share, or 1,095 projects, followed by investments in utilities, which summed 2,262 projects and made up a 5.82% share.
The counties of Cluj, Timis and Bihor, along with Romania’s capital, Bucharest, were the main investment destinations for the construction sector, with the first two being the only areas attracting over 2,000 investments.
Regionally, 5,878 construction projects, or one out of five, were located in northwestern Romania, while central Romania came in second, housing 14% of all projects. At the opposite end of the spectrum sat southwestern Romania, with an 8% share, or 2,389 projects. Zeroing in on the size of the projects, Bucharest and Ilfov county along with northwestern Romania were the only two regions to exceed 1,000 large projects in 2022, according to the report.
