June 11 (SeeNews) - Chinese businessmen have visited Croatia's Osijek airport for a second time this year, reaffirming their investment interest, the local government said.
A Chinese business delegation led by Zagreb-based Chinese Southeast European Business Association (CSEBA) paid a visit to the Osijek-Baranja county, in north-eastern Croatia, in the middle of April and now came back in bigger numbers, the county government said in a statement on Monday.
Mayor Ivan Anusic was quoted as saying that the Chinese business representatives are interested in an area adjacent to the airport, which could be used to build a logistics centre, as well as in investing in the airport's cargo and passenger terminals.
Next, the businessmen are expected to hold talks with the Croatian government, Anusic said, adding the potential foreign investors have already confirmed they are going to send a letter of intent to the relevant authorities.
In August 2018, the municipal government in Osijek said that SHS Aviation, a Slovenian-registered company controlled by Chinese capital, was interested in investing in the Osijek airport, which was primarily built for cargo traffic.
SHS Aviation acquired the operator of Slovenia’s Maribor airport in December 2016.
