August 31 (SeeNews) - China's Hisense Group plans to expand the production capacity of Slovenian household goods manufacturer Gorenje by building a new factory for TV sets near the company's headquarters in Velenje, the municipal government said.
The new factory will have an annual production capacity of one million TV sets, the municipal government of Velenje said in a statement on Thursday, following a visit by senior company officials, including board president Franjo Bobinac.
Bobinac assured the local government that there will be no layoffs, as Hisense intends to keep Gorenje's main production lines in Velenje and increase production capacity.
Hisense Group recently completed the acquisition of – combined with previously acquired shares – a total of 95.42% of the company Gorenje.
On May 28, Slovenia's securities market agency, ATVP, issued a permit to Hisense for a takeover bid for 24,424,613 Gorenje shares, minus the 8,050,014 shares that it already held.
Hisense informed the agency that between May 29 and June 26 the takeover bid was accepted by 5,165 shareholders, who held a total of 15,254,871 GRVG shares, representing 62.46% of all Gorenje shares.
In May, Gorenje selected Hisense as the best bidder in a tender for a strategic partner.
