BELGRADE (Serbia), April 19 (SeeNews) – China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) may complete the construction of the Surcin-Obrenovac motorway section of pan-European Corridor XI ahead of schedule, the general manager of CRBC Serbia, Zhang Xiaoyuan, said on Friday.
CRBC is working intensively on the project, Xiaoyuan said during a meeting with Serbian infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic in Belgrade, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
In 2017, Mihajlovic said CRBC will complete the construction of the motorway section section by November 2019.
"We are very satisfied with the cooperation with CRBC, the way in which you are implementing the project of building a highway from Surcin to Obrenovac is an example for all, and I expect that the works will be finished by the end of this year," Mihajlovic said during the meeting with Xiaoyuan.
Earlier this month, Serbia's government signed a memorandum of understanding with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the parent company of CRBC, for the construction of a trunk road connecting Belgrade to Corridor XI.
Serbia signed a $233.69 million (206.5 million euro) agreement with China on the design and construction of Surcin-Obrenovac section of Corridor XI in June 2016. The agreement was signed by Serbia's economy minister and the director of CCCC during an official visit of China's president Xi Jinping to Belgrade.
Corridor XI runs through Serbia from the country's northeastern border with Romania to the southwestern border with Montenegro.
