March 21 (SeeNews) - China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) started the construction of a 1.7 billion euro ($1.88 billion) motorway section of pan-European Corridor XI, the Serbian government said during the weekend.
The deadline for the construction of the 75-kilometre section linking the town of Pozega and the village of Duga Poljana in Serbia's south is four years, the government said on Sunday.
Serbia hired CRBC for the job in December. At the time, the government said the project would cost 1.5 billion euro.
Upon the finalisation of the construction, Serbia will have only a 32-kilometre section between Belgrade and the Montenegrin border left to build to complete Corridor XI on its territory, according to an earlier statement by the president's office.
Pan-European Corridor XI is a ferry/motorway corridor linking Italy's Bari to Romania's Bucharest via Montenegro and Serbia.
