March 10 (SeeNews) - China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) is delaying the implementation of projects in Serbia, due to supply problems caused by the coronavirus outbreak, Serbian news agency Tanjug reported.
"There are certain problems with projects being implemented by CMEC, and potential problems with Chinese contractors have more to do with production and transports of equipment than with workers coming from the People's Republic of China," Tanjug quoted on Monday sources from the Serbian economy ministry as saying.
CMEC is implementing a $715.6 million (629.4 million euro) project for the modernisation of Kostolac B coal-fired power plant in Serbia, including the construction of a 350 MW unit in which will produce 2.5 billion kWh of electricity annually. The project is expected to be completed this year.
The ministry held a meeting on February 20 with China Railway International (CRI), China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), Powerchina, Shandong Hi Speed and CMEC, to discuss potential solutions to problems for the implementation of projects in Serbia caused by the coronavirus epidemic in China, Tanjug reported.
