May 10 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's government said China has granted 2.65 million euro ($2.88 million) for the reconstruction of Djurdjevica Tara Bridge over the Tara river.
In addition to its historical importance, the bridge in the northern part of the country also plays a crucial role in Montenegro's tourism and transport sectors, the government quoted China's ambassador Cui Zhiwei as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
China and Montenegro have developed a high degree of political and economic cooperation, Zhiwei added.
In February, the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) said it planned to invest 194.3 million euro into the construction of the Bar-Boljare motorway in Montenegro in 2017.
The Montenegrin government intends to invest a total of 809 million euro in the construction of the 165 km-long Bar-Boljare motorway. The Export-Import Bank of China has extended a $944 million loan to Montenegro, with an interest rate of 2% and a six-year grace period, for the implementation of the project.
