June 20 (SeeNews) - CEZ Distribution Bulgaria [BUL:3CZ], a subsidiary of Czech power utility CEZ Group, said that it will invest 868,000 levs ($501,000/ 444,000 euro) this year in power grid upgrades in Pleven Region, in the northern part of the country, during 2019.
Almost half of the investment, 415,000 levs, will be used for rehabilitation of power lines in Pleven, Knezha, Cherven Bryag and Koynare, CEZ Distribution said in a press release on Wednesday.
The rest of the investment will finance the modernisation of the power substation at Pleven thermal power plant the overhaul of low-voltage networks in the region - by 200,000 levs and 235,000 levs, respectively.
In the first half of 2019, the company has installed 7,800 smart meters in the town of Cherven Bryag alone.
CEZ Distribution Bulgaria invested over three million levs in Pleven Region last year, mainly for automation of the electricity supply network. Some 326,000 levs were invested in the reconstruction of the power substation in Dolna Mitropoliya, while a new substation was built for 133,000 levs in Cherven Bryag.
