PODGORICA (Montenegro), May 25 (SeeNews) – The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) plans to make available to Montenegro a 10 million euro ($11.2 million) credit line for the “1000+ Apartments” project of the Montenegrin government by the end of 2017, Montenegrin media reported.
The final decision on the credit line will be taken after a visit of representatives of the bank to Podgorica in June, daily Pobjeda quoted on Wednesday the Vice-Governor for Social Development Strategy of CEB, Rosa Maria Sanchez-Yebra Alonso, as saying.
The “1000+ Apartments” is carried out in cooperation between the Montenegrin government and CEB to address the housing needs of Montenegrin families, the website of the programme says.
In the period 2011-2016, some 800 Montenegrin households saw their long-term housing situation resolved, thanks to two CEB loans totalling 20 million euro, the bank said in a separate statement last week.
Alonso attended last week the inauguration of a construction site in Konik, near Podgorica, to mark the beginning of construction work for 51 new apartments as part of the Regional Housing Programme (RHP), the bank said back then.
The apartments, which are expected to be completed in the second half of 2018, are in addition to the 120 apartments currently under construction in the same location and likely to be handed over to beneficiary families in the autumn.
The RHP is a joint initiative of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, and the aim of the programme is to provide durable housing solutions to vulnerable persons who were displaced during the war in the former Yugoslavia and still live in dire conditions.
