October 21 (SeeNews) - Canada agreed to scrap visas for all Bulgarian citizens by December next year in exchange for Bulgaria's approval of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada, Bulgarian prime minister Boyko Borissov said on Friday.
"Together with the Romanian president we received written confirmation [...] that by December 2017 the visa regime for Canada will be eliminated for all Bulgarian citizens. In this case, I and the Romanian president decided to support it (CETA)," Borissov told reporters in Brussels ahead of the European Council meeting, according to a broadcast posted on the Council's website.
Previously, Bulgaria and Romania expressed their reluctance to back CETA if Canada did not lift the visa requirement for their citizens.
