October 29 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Varna and Burgas municipalities will both benefit from EU funding for projects for partially replacing the ageing fleets of their respective public transport companies with new electric buses, the environment ministry said.
Varna's public transport company Gradski Transport will benefit from 70 million levs ($39.7 million/35.8 million euro) in funding under Operational Programme Environment 2014-2020, in order to partially finance an 85.4 million levs project for the purchase of 60 new electric buses and 60 charging stations, the ministry said in a statement last week.
Burgasbus, the company servicing Burgas, will get 65 million levs from the EU-backed programme to partially fund its 82 million levs project for the purchase of 56 new electric buses and additional equipment for the city's existing public transport management system.
Varna's project is expected to be completed within 39 months, while Burgas is expected to wrap up works in 24 months.
