December 1 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian transport and logistics company Transpress will on Friday inaugurate a new warehousing and logistics centre on the outskirts of Sofia following an investment of over 16 million levs ($8.5 million/8.2 million euro), the company said.
The facility, spreading over 40,000 sq m, will be the largest cross-docking platform in Bulgaria with a processing capacity of 12,000 tonnes of cargo per day, or over 4 million pallets a year, the company said in a press release.
Over time, Transpress intends to hire as many as 100 new staff at the logistics centre.
There will be 60 ramps for simultaneous loading and unloading of trucks as well as warehouses, a parcel distribution area and an office area. The company plans to install rooftop solar photovoltaic panels along with charging stations for electric vehicles.
The centre also features the Balkan region's first automated line for processing pallet shipments, which involves the transportation of 40 autonomous carts on a specially constructed rail line.
The Bulgarian company began the construction of the facility in July 2021.
Sofia-based Transpress has been active in transportation and logistics services for 30 years, with a headcount of close to 1,000, a fleet of over 400 vehicles and 13 logistics centres in Bulgaria. It operates the Green Courier brand and has a network of 430 locations across Europe operated in partnership with German freight company Dachser.
