November 4 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's state-owned coal-fired thermal power plant (TPP) Maritsa Iztok 2 said on Monday that it has signed a 7.5 million levs ($4.3 million/3.8 million euro) contract with local GRP Tech for the supply of GRP components for the absorbers of its Unit 8.
The contract was signed on October 30, TPP Maritsa Iztok 2 said in a notice.
The power plant's Unit 8 was damaged by a recent fire.
TPP Maritsa Iztok 2 opted not to hold an open public procurement procedure for awarding the contract as the repairs had already been significantly delayed due to a formal investigation into the reasons for the fire.
The power plant operator invited local Vetrorezina Balkan and GRP Tech to submit offers for the contract.
TPP Maritsa Iztok 2 has eight operating units with a total installed capacity of 1,620 MW.
