SOFIA (Bulgaria), October 22 (SeeNews) – Bulgarian real estate investment trust (REIT) Health and Wellness said on Tuesday it has awarded a deal for the preparation of the design and investment project of Pirin airport to Bulgarian civil engineering company Straplan.
The 1.76 million lev ($1.23 million/900,000 euro) contract includes the preparation of a site development plan, Health and Wellness said in a statement.
The design has to be completed by November 30, 2014.
Pirin airport will be located at the site of a former military airfield near the town of Gotse Delchev in southwestern Bulgaria, the REIT said. It is strategically situated near the country's winter, cultural and spa resorts.
The airport, which will have a small passenger terminal, is expected to reach a passenger traffic of some 100,000 and aircraft movements of 3,000 by 2015.
Pirin airport will service civil flights as well as charter passenger flights.
It will cover a total area of 874,675 decares (261,525 acres). The existing 2,100 metres long and 25 metres wide runway of the former military airfield will be extended.
