July 10 (SeeNews) - Revenue from tourist overnights spent in Bulgaria shrank by 93% on the year to 5.4 million levs ($3.1 million/2.8 million euro) in May, as the coronavirus crisis took its toll on the hospitality business, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday.
Revenues from overnights spent by Bulgarian tourists fell by 86% on the year in May, while revenues from overnights by foreign nationals decreased by 97%, the NSI said in a statement.
The total number of tourist overnights spent in Bulgaria during the review period decreased by an annual 92% - to 116,100.
The largest drop in the number of overnights, by 97.5%, was registered by four and five-star accommodation facilities which served 15% of the overnights spent by Bulgarian tourists and 35% of the overnights of international visitors.
A total of 48,900 tourists stayed in accommodation facilities in Bulgaria in May, down by 92% year-on-year.
