December 29 (SeeNews) - The operator of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy said on Thursday it produced 15,644,560 MWh of electricity since the beginning of the year, fulfilling its 2016 output plan two days early.
Kozloduy's operating Units 5 and 6 each are expected to generate a further 130,000 MWh until the end of the year, the power plant operator said in a press release.
In October, Kozloduy shut down Unit 6 for maintenance which included modernization of the separators of the unit's steam generators, aiming to increase the thermal capacity of the unit to 104%.
Kozloduy remained with two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each after the country closed down four units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to its accession to the bloc. Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
