October 26 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy said on Thursday it reconnected to the grid its 1000 MW Unit 6 following a planned annual maintenance shutdown.
During the shutdown the unit was recharged with fresh nuclear fuel, the NPP said in a statement.
As part of the works related to the extension of its operational lifespan, the unit was inspected and part of its equipment was replaced according to schedule.
Unit 6 was shut down for scheduled maintenance on September 16.
The power plant's other 1000 MW unit, Unit 5, operates at 100% of its capacity.
Kozloduy NPP remained with two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - after Bulgaria closed down four older units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to the country's accession to the bloc in 2007.
