SOFIA (Bulgaria), June 23 (SeeNews) - Registrations of all types of new commercial vehicles in Bulgaria dropped by 12% on the year to 749 in May, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said on Thursday.

The country posted the same annual rate of decline in new commercial vehicle registrations in the first five months of 2022, reaching 3,497, ACEA said in a statement, citing provisional data.

In May, registrations of new light commercial vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes were the sole category to post a decline, tumbling 33% year-on-year to 398.

Registrations of new medium and heavy commercial vehicles of over 3.5 tonnes grew 21% to 313 in the review period, while those of medium and heavy buses and coaches surged to 38 from just two in the same month of 2021.

A total of 280 heavy commercial vehicles of 16 tonnes and over were registered in Bulgaria in May, which was an annual increase of 12%.

In the EU, new commercial vehicle registrations underwent a decline for the eleventh straight month, slipping back by 18% to 136,410 as all key EU markets -- such as France, Germany and Spain, posted double-digit losses.

Across the EU12, which comprises member states that have joined the EU since 2004, total registrations declined 5.1% on the year to 21,074 in May. The five-month decrease in the EU12 was by 11% to 95,533 units.
