SOFIA (Bulgaria), May 5 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria's telecoms regulator granted Mobiltel, the local unit of Telekom Austria Group, the right to use additional spectrum for 4G/LTE services in the 1800 МHz band for 12 million levs ($7 million/6.15 million euro), the company said on Thursday.
Mobiltel, which operates under the Mtel brand, is already using the new frequency resources, offering customers mobile internet at a maximum speed of 130 Mbps.
The company launched its 4G network on April 25 and currently offers 4G services to 75% of Bulgaria’s population.
Mobiltel has invested 200 million levs in its network infrastructure so far this year, mostly in 4G technology.
