October 31 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy shut down its 1000-MW Unit 6 after a non-nuclear technical problem with the cooling system of the generator at 2100 local time on Saturday, the power plant operator said.
There is no deviation from normal radiation levels at the plant and work is being done to restore the unit to regular functioning, NPP Kozloduy said in a statement.
The news came hours after Unit 6 was reconnected to the grid at midday on Saturday, after completion of its planned maintenance and a check-up by the Nuclear Regulation Agency.
The plant's Unit 6 was switched off at the end of September for maintenance which included measures aimed at increasing safety and ensuring the long-term operation of the unit. The reactor was reloaded with fresh nuclear fuel.
NPP Kozloduy's other 1,000-MW Unit 5 is operating at full capacity.
