October 10 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's trade deficit decreased 19.9% year-on-year to 2.94 billion levs ($1.67 billion/1.5 billion euro) in the first eight months of 2016, data from the country's statistics office, NSI, showed on Monday.
Exports fell 2% on the year to 29.7 billion levs in the period January-August, while imports dropped 3.9% to 32.6 billion levs, NSI said in a statement.
In August alone, exports rose 4.5% as compared to July, while imports grew 2%. The changes resulted in a 53% month-on-month widening of the trade shortfall for August.
