February 17 (SeeNews) - The average household expenditure per capita in Bulgaria rose 10.7% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2019, outpaced by the rise in average income per household member, which increased by 13.7%, the National Statistical Institute said on Monday.
A household member spent 1,670 levs ($926/854 euro) on average in the last quarter of 2019, while their income amounted to 1,770 levs during the same period, NSI said in a statement.
Wages and salaries formed 56.2% of total household income, followed by pensions and self-employment income with 27.3% and 6.4%, respectively.
Expenses for food made up 29.7% of the total household expenditure, while expenditure on housing cost a further 17.2%.
Taxes and social insurance contributions constituted 12.9% of the total expenditure in the fourth quarter of 2019, followed by transport and communication services with 11.5%.
