January 24 (SeeNews) - The Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) said that the volume of electricity traded on its day ahead market soared by 43.14% to a record-high 8.4 TWh in 2019.
In addition, the 873,270 MWh traded in December are the highest monthly volume since the day-ahead market was set up in January 2016, IBEX said in a statement on Wednesday.
The bourse's intraday market also saw a 2.5 times increase in traded volume to 422,791 MWh in 2019.
In 2019 the delivered volumes on the centralized market for bilateral contracts amounted to 16,520,258 MWh.
The number of participants on the day ahead market rose to 76 at the end of 2019 from 73 a year earlier, while participants on the intraday market rose to 57 from 43. At the end of 2019, 64 companies participate in the centralized market for bilateral contracts.
IBEX, established in 2014, holds a 10-year license by the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission for organizing a Power Exchange for electricity in Bulgaria.
IBEX is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, which acquired the company in 2017.
