May 16 (SeeNews) - The average household expenditure per capita in Bulgaria rose by 13.3% on the year in the first quarter of 2022, whereas the average income per household member added 9.6% over the same period, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
Each household member spent on average 1,821 levs ($972/931 euro) between January and end-March, while individual income amounted to 2,006 levs, NSI said in a statement.
The relative share of income from wages and salaries in the review period increased by 1.7 percentage points (pp) year-on-year to 56.9%. Pensions and self-employment income made up 30.9% and 4.9% of household income, respectively, both marking declines since the first quarter of 2021.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for the greatest share of total first-quarter expenditure, or 29.5%, up from 28.4% in the first three months of 2021.
Expenses for housing were 18.8%, while transport and communication made up 12.1% of total spending. Taxes and social insurance contributions accounted for 13.6% of total household expenditure in the review period.
