July 19 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's current account showed a deficit of 152 million euro ($232.8 million) in the first five months of 2018, compared to a surplus of 16.7 million euro in the same period of 2017, the central bank said on Thursday
The current account deficit was equivalent to 0.3% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in January-May, compared to a surplus of 0.03% of GDP in the prior-year period, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a statement.
Bulgaria's trade balance recorded a deficit of 1.45 billion euro in the first five months, or 2.8% of GDP, as compared to a trade deficit of 976.6 million euro, or 1.9% of GDP, in the like period of last year.
Exports grew 3% year-on-year in January-May period, while imports expanded 7.1%.

Bulgaria closed 2017 with a current account surplus of 1.98 billion euro, compared to a surplus of 1.8 billion euro in the previous year.
