March 24 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was the lowest among EU member states in 2022, at 41% below the EU average, the EU statistical office said, citing flash data.
Expressed in purchasing power standards (PPS), Bulgaria's GDP per capita amounted to 59% of the EU average and was thus at the lowest value out of the 27 member states, Eurostat said on Thursday in a release of of flash PPPs and GDP estimates for 2022.
Out of the five EU member states in Southeast Europe, Slovenia recorded the highest level of GDP per capita, or 92% of the EU average. In the EU as a whole, the highest values were posted by Luxembourg and Ireland, at 161% and 134% above the EU average, respectively.
PPS, an artificial currency unit, is derived by dividing any economic aggregate of a country in the national currency by its respective purchasing power parities.
In January, Eurostat reported that the EU's highest levels of inequality in terms of disposable income in 2021 were registered in Bulgaria, with a coefficient of 39.7%.
