September 17 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency said it has signed a 1.5 million levs ($844,700/767,000 euro) deal with local company GBS Infrastrukturno Stroitelstvo for an emergency repair of a viaduct of the Struma motorway.
The deal has been signed on September 4, the RIA said in a notice on Monday.
Works on the project have been assigned to GBS Infrastukturno Stroitelstvo without a public procurement procedure, as the company had built the viaduct and is therefore responsible for fixing any defects on the structure during the warranty period.
Last month, the viaduct near the town of Dupnitsa south of Sofia was damaged when trash unlawfully piled beneath the facility by a waste collection company caught fire.
Works were assigned to GBS also because of the urgent need of repair of the viaduct in view of traffic safety requirements and the importance of the Struma motorway for the national economy, RIA said when it opened the tender in August.
The Struma motorway connects Sofia to the Kulata crossing on the border with Greece.
Works on the project are expected to be completed within 4 months.
